Cougars Split in Norman

Cougars scored 24 seconds into the game and earned their 10th win of the year

The Cougars took to the ice on Saturday night in Thompson after Kenora had eliminated them from the playoffs on Friday night. The Cougars scored 24 seconds into the game and earned their 10th win of the year 5-2. Sunday afternoon the Northstars scored a pair of power play goals in a come from behind 2-1 win.
Game Details.......Saturday night, John Patmore hooked up with Matt Millan to open the scoring 24 seconds into the game. Daylon Campbell evened the score at 5:53 before Jared Janke got the lead back with help from Tyler Kirkup for a 2-1 first period lead.
Brett Opperman hooked up with Keaton Jameson and Montana Masson 14 minutes into the second for a comfortable lead after 2.
The third period saw Kyle Braybrook open the scoring from Montana Masson 3 minutes in before William Lutz beat Rylan Rommeleare  half way through the frame. Braden Billaney finished the scoring into an empty net with Brett Opperman picking up the helper.
Rylan Rommelaere turned aside 25 shots for the win while the Cougars fired 45 shots at Mark Steeves in the Norman net.
Sunday afternoon Mark Steeves turned aside 35 shots for the 2-1 win. Jared Janke opened the scoring from Kyle Braybrook in the second minute.
Norman evened the score at 12:15 of the second on the power play, and then William Eikel knocked in the eventual game winner with 40 seconds left in the second period as the Cougars almost held off a 2 man advantage,
The third period was scoreless as Jay Pringle turned aside 23 shots in the Cougar net.
The Cougars now head back south after the game with 5 games to play. First up is Parkland who sit in 6 th place next Friday, an then the 8th place Kenora Thistles will make their final appearance of the season on Sunday. Yellowhead visit the Cougars on the 11th, before Central Plains plays the season final game on the 15th. The Cougars final road game is on the February 13 in Dauphin versus the Rangers.
