By Ryan Dupre

The Eastman Selects traveled to the Ice Plex Friday night to play the first place Wild!

Veteran goaltender Bailey Funk had a tremendous night despite losing a close game 4-3 to the Winnipeg Wild! Funk made 34 saves many of them were of the amazing variety, and he gave his teammates a chance to win! The wild opened the scoring 8:00 into the game but the Selects responded 3:30 later when Vaughn Dupre scored. 3:30 after that the Selects scored again, Brett Davis scored putting the Selects up 2-1. The wild scored with less than a minute left in the first to tie the score, the Selects were outshot 19-11 in the first period.

The second period was much better for the Selects, captain Kelby Picard scored the only goal of the period and the Selects held a 3-2 lead going into the third. Eastman came out in the third skating well and pushing the pace of the game, then the Wild scored a "lucky" goal to tie the game . The puck went in off an Eastman skate then off the post and in. That goal seemed to sap the energy from the Selects and the Wild scored again 2:00 later to take the lead. Eastman tried their best to get that goal back but the wild were able to hang on for the victory!

The Selects next play Friday the 12th in Winnipeg against the thrashers and then return home to Beausejour the next night to play the Central Plains Capitals.
