The Eastman Selects travelled to Winnipeg on Friday and beat the the Winnipeg Thrashers 3-2! The thrashers were the only team the Selects had not beat this season until last night.

In a pivotal match for a position at the top of the standings, the Selects got tremendous goaltending again from veteran Bailey Funk and a gritty effort flow from the boys up front.  The Selects opened the scoring on the power play mid way through the first when Matt Leblanc shovelled home a rebound, the thrashers responded with less them 2 minutes left in the first on their own power play to tie the game going into the second period.

In the second Drew Draward scored the only goal of the period as the Selects poured on the pressure out skating and out shooting the Thrashers.  With a tenuous 1 goal lead in the third the Selects were playing in their heels and the thrashers tied the game early in the period. Four minutes later the Selects regained the lead when Vaughn Dupre scored on a back hand from the slot!

The rest of the third period was largely played in the Selects zone as the thrashers pressed for the equalizer, but Bailey Funk stood tall in the net making several remarkable saves to secure the victory.

The win puts the Selects in second place just ahead of the Brandon Wheat Kings and Winnipeg Thrashers.
