Feb 17 - 23

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Brandon Ambrozik of the Winnipeg Thrashers is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week!

In three contests this week, Ambrozik picked up 6 goals and 4 assists. On Wednesday, Ambrozik contributed an assist as the Thrashers beat the Central Plains Capitals 5-0. On Saturday, with the Thrashers in Kenora to face the Thistles, Ambrozik tallied 4 goals and 3 assist. The Thrashers beat the Thistles 15-0. Finally, on Sunday, the Thrashers faced-off against the Yellowhead Chiefs with both teams jockeying for playoff position. Mid-way through the first period, Ambrozik scored while short handed to give the Thrashers a 3-0 lead.  After Yellowhead made it 3-2, Ambrozik tallied his second short handed goal of the afternoon to reclaim the Thrashers 2-goal lead. Ambrozik and the Thrashers went on to win the game 8-4, securing the 3rd seed for league playoffs.

Ambrozik is the Thrashers captain and is in his second season with the club. He leads the team in scoring with 30 goals and 35 assists in 48 games played. He also carries a Plus/Minus rating of +43. Ambrozik is currently listed with the Neepawa Natives of the MJHL.

Feb 10 - 16

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Jayden Catellier of the Eastman Selects is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week! 

Catellier, a product of St. Pierre, MB, had two wins this week, including one shutout. On Friday, with the Selects visiting the Winnipeg Bruins, the 6’1”, 190lbs goaltender backstopped the Selects to a 4-0 victory. Catellier turned aside all 26 of the Bruins shots for the shutout. On Saturday, with the Selects hosting the Wheat Kings, Catellier stopped 21 of 22 shots. The Selects beat the Wheat Kings by a 4-1 margin.

Cattellier is in his first season with the U18 Selects, and holds a 13-11 record with a 2.95 GAA and .911 Save Percentage. His Manitoba Junior Hockey League Rights are held by the Portage Terriers. Catelllier was also a participant in Hockey Manitoba's U16 POE program last year.

Feb 3 - 9

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Roux Bazin of the Pembina Valley Hawks is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week! 

In 3 games this week, Bazin scored 6 goals and had 4 assists. On Wednesday, with the Hawks hosting the Winnipeg Bruins, Bazin scored mid-way through the second period to put the Hawks up 4-2. He also contributed 3 assists, including 2 on the power play. The Hawks scored 4 third-period goals and won the game 8-4. On Saturday, with the Hawks in Thompson to face the Norman Northstars, the 5’10” 170Lbs forward scored, and the Hawks won 5-0. In the rematch on Sunday, Bazin found the back of the net 4 times and added an assist, leading the Hawks to a 10-3 victory. 

Bazin, a product of Treherne MB, is in his second season with the Hawks. He posted 48 points in 42 games last season and has 46 points (23 goals and 23 assists) in 42 games this season. Bazin was drafted by the Victoria Royals of the Western Hockey League and is listed with the Virden Oil Capitals of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Jan 27 - Feb 2

The Manitoba AAA U-8 Hockey League is proud to announce that Cody Blight of the Central Plains Capitals is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week!

In two games this week, Blight scored twice and had 6 assists. On Saturday, with the Capitals hosting the Winnipeg Thrashers, Blight had two third period assists on goals that put the Capitals up 3-2. The teams then traded goals, and the Capitals won 4-3. On Sunday, in Brandon, Blight scored a short-handed marker and also contributed 4 assists. The Capitals beat the Wheat Kings 9-3.

The 6’1”, 160lbs forward is in his second season with the Capitals. In just 18 games played this season, Blight has 16 goals and 16 assists.

Jan 20 - 26

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Albert Sinclair of the Norman Northstars is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week! 

In three games this past week, Sinclair had 7 goals and 5 assists for a 12 point weekend! On Friday, with the Northstars in Kenora to face the Thistles, Sinclair recorded a hat trick and contributed 2 assists. He tallied 2 of those points on the power play and 1 while shorthanded. Sinclair's effort helped the Northstars earn their second win of the season, defeating the Thistles by a 7-4 margin. On Saturday, against those same Thistles, Sinclair notched 2 goals on the power play and added 2 assists for a 4 point game. The Northstars beat the Thistles 8-3 and earned their third win of the season. Finally on Sunday, with the Northstars in Teulon to face the Lightning, Sinclair and the Northstars continued their hot streak. Sinclair scored twice and added another assist, and the Northstars won their third straight game, beating the Lightning 6-4.

Sinclair contributes at both ends of the ice for the Northstars, and he is a valuable member of both the power play and penalty kill. The Split Lake product is in his 3rd season with the Northstars and has well surpassed his season high in points (previously 7), with 33 through 28 games thus far.

Jan 13 - 19

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is pleased to announce to that Ethan Clements of the Winnipeg Wild is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week.

In two games this past week, Clements scored 6 goals and added 4 assists to help the Wild win both games played. On Friday, with the Wild hosting the Central Plains Capitals, Clements opened the scoring early in the first and added a short-handed goal late in the second. The Wild went on to win 5-0. On Saturday, with the Wild visiting Kenora, Clements tallied 4 goals (2 on the power play) and added 4 assists (2 on the power play). 

Clements is in his first season with the Wild and has 13 goals and 19 assists in 37 games so far this season. He’s tallied 7 power play points and 1 short-handed point. He’s also accumulated a +30 rating so far this season. Clements is listed with the Steinbach Pistons of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Jan 6 - 12

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Cody Blight of the Central Plains Capitals is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week!

Blight had 8 points (4 goals and 4 assists) in 3 games this week. On Wednesday, with the Capitals facing the Interlake Lightning, Blight scored 2 goals. The Capitals beat the Lightning 7-6 in OT. On Saturday, against the Brandon Wheat Kings, Blight scored a short-handed marker midway through the first period and added an assist in the third period to help the Capitals beat the Wheat Kings 3-2. To conclude the week, Blight notched 1 goal and 3 assists to help the Capitals come back from a 4-goal deficit against the Parkland Rangers on Sunday.

Blight is in his second season with the Capitals. Since being returned to the Capitals from the Portage Terriers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, Blight has 20 points (14 goals and 6 assists) in 11 games played. He had 34 points in 43 games last season and was named the Capitals MVP.

Jan 2 - 4

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Dean Gorchynski of the Winnipeg Wild is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week! 

In two games this week, Gorchynski tallied 5 goals and 2 assists. On Friday, with the Wild in Beausejour to face the Eastman Selects, Gorchynski assisted on the Wild’s first 2 goals before scoring 2 himself. The Wild went on to win 4-2. On Sunday, with the Wild hosting their cross-town rival Winnipeg Thrashers, Gorchynski netted a hat trick, as the Wild beat the Thrashers 6-4.

Gorchynski, a 16-year old who is listed with the Winnipeg Blues of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, plays in all situations for the Wild. He is in his second full season with the Wild and has 12 goals and 20 assists in 32 games played.

Dec 16 - 22

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Keaton Ziprick of the Parkland Rangers is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week.

Ziprick backstopped the Rangers to two wins this week. On Friday, against the Central Plains Capitals, Ziprick stopped 46 of 47 shots faced. On Saturday, against the Yellowhead Chiefs, Ziprick stopped 36 of 37 in regulation and overtime and 5 of 6 in the shootout. In total, Ziprick stopped 80 of 82 shots faced for a .976 SV%.

Ziprick is in his second season with the Rangers and currently holds a 9-11 record with a 3.53 GAA and SV% of .906. The 5’11” 180lbs goaltender is affiliated with the Dauphin Kings of Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Dec. 9 - 15

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Nathan Goodbrandson of the Winnipeg Thrashers is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week.

In 3 contests this week, Goodbrandson tallied 8 points, scoring 4 times and adding 4 assists. On Wednesday evening, with the Transhers visiting the Kenora Thistles, Goodbrandson scored 1 goal and collected 2 assists. The Thrashers defeated the Thistles 7-2. On Saturday, against the Parkland Rangers, Goodbrandson picked up 1 goal and 2 assists in the Thrashers 6-3 victory. Finally, on Sunday, with the Thrashers facing cross-town rival Winnipeg Wild, Goodbrandson scored twice in a 4-1 win.

The 6’2” 176lbs forward is in his second season with the Thrashers and has accumulated 14 goals and 17 assist in 28 games played. He also carries a plus/minus rating of +21. Goodbrandson signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League,  and he is also affiliated with the Selkirk Steelers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Dec 2 - 8

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Jordan Pfoh of the Norman Northstars in the CCM Hockey Player of the Week!

Pfoh had 7 points in 2 games this week, scoring 3 times and adding 4 assists. On Saturday, with the Kenora Thistles in town, Pfoh scored twice (once on the power play) and added an assist. Despite his efforts, the Northstars came up just shy and lost 5-6. In the rematch on Sunday, Pfoh scored a short-handed goal and added 3 assists (including 1 while short-handed), leading the Northstars to the first win of their season!   

Pfoh is the captain of the Northstars and in his 3rd season with the club.  As captain, he leads both on and off the ice, maintaining a positive outlook and volunteering with local charities in Thompson.  The 6’1” defenseman is second on his team in total points with 19 (8 goals and 11 assists).

Nov 25 - Dec 1

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Michael Svenson of the Eastman Selects is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week!

In 3 contests over the past week, Svenson scored 6 goals and added 2 assists. His efforts helped the Selects to a 3-0 record and pushed them into 6th in the league standings. Svenson was held off the scoresheet in Wednesday evening’s game against the Interlake Lightning, but the Selects won 4-2. On Saturday, with the Selects hosting the Parkland Rangers, Svenson scored a hat trick and added 2 assists in a 5-point outing. The Selects defeated the Rangers 8-1. On Sunday, with the Central Plains Capitals in town, Svenson again notched a hat trick, including what would turn out to be the game winner. The Selects won 6-3.

The Ile Des Chenes product is in his second year with the Selects. He currently has 13 goals and 10 assists in 23 games played.  Svenson is listed with the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and was drafted by the Prince George Cougars in the 5th round of the 2018 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Nov 18 - 24

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Cayden Glover of the Brandon Wheat Kings is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week!

In 3 games played this week Glover recorded 3 goals and 4 assists. On Tuesday, against the Yellowhead Chiefs, Glover had an assist, but the Wheat Kings fell 3-5. On Saturday, with the Wheaties hosting the Central Plains Capitals, Glover scored and added an assist. The Wheat Kings lost 3-6. Finally, on Sunday with the Kenora Thistles in town, Glover recorded 2 goals and 2 assists and the Wheat Kings went on to win 12-2.

Glover is in his first year with the AAA Wheat Kings and has accumulated 6 goals and 9 assists in 16 games played. The Brandon product was selected 25th overall by the Medicine Hat Tigers in last years’ WHL Bantam draft. Glover won a silver medal with Team Manitoba at the U-16 WHL Cup.

Nov. 11 - 17

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is pleased to announce that Garrett Hrechka of the Parkland Rangers is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week!

In three contests this past week, Hrechka scored 3 times and had 3 assists. On Wednesday, with the Rangers hosting the Brandon Wheat Kings, Hrechka scored early in the second period to get Parkland on the board. Midway through the third, he added his second of the night to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead, and the Rangers would go on to beat the Wheat Kings 5-3. On Friday, with the Southwest Cougars in Dauphin, Hrechka notched an assist, but the Rangers fell 2-5. On Saturday, the Rangers played host to the Winnipeg Bruins in their second annual Ukrainian Night. Also in town was Sportsnet’s Hometown Hockey! Hrechka opened the scoring midway through the second period before assisting on the game-tying goal with under 5 minutes to play in the third period. Hrechka would add his second assist with less than a second to play in overtime as the Rangers toppled the Bruins 3-2.

Hrechka is in his thirdseason with the U18 Rangers. He currently leads the team in goals (8) and points (21). The Dauphin native is one of the captains for the Rangers this season (A on the road and C at home).

Nov. 4 - 10

The Manitoba AAA UI18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Connor Geekie of the Yellowhead Chiefs is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week!

In 4 games this weekend, Geekie scored 5 goals and added 5 assists. On Tuesday, with the Chiefs hosting the Southwest Cougars, Geekie had two assists and scored the game winning goal just 53 seconds into overtime. The Chiefs beat the Cougars 5-4. On Friday, with the Chiefs in Kenora to face the Thistles, Geekie scored twice and added two assists. The Chiefs toppled the Thistles 10-0. In the second game of the weekend pair against the Thistles, Geekie scored and also added an assist on the power play. The Chiefs won 7-2. Geekie and the Chiefs played in their third game in three days on Sunday against the Wild. The Wild won a tight one 2-1. 

The 6’3” 170lbs  forward is in his first season with the Chiefs and has accumulated 10 goals and 10 assists in just 13 games played. Geekie, who hails from Strathclair, was drafted 2nd overall by the Winnipeg Ice in the 2019  Western Hockey League’s Bantam Draft.

Oct. 28 - Nov 3

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Nate Goodbrandson of the Winnipeg Thrashers is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week.

In two contests this weekend, the 6’2” 176lbs forward scored 3 goals and added 3 assists. On Friday, against the Central Plains Capitals, Nate picked up 2 goals and 2 assists as the Thrashers beat the Capitals 6-1. On Saturday, with the Thrashers facing the Norman Northstars, Goodbrandson opened the scoring 1:33 into the game and added an assist late in the third period. The Thrashers beat the Northstars 7-3.  

Goodbrandson is in his second season with the Thrashers and is currently third in team scoring with 6 goals and 11 assists in 14 games this season. The St. Andrews native has signed a standard player contract with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League, and he is also affiliated with the Selkirk Steelers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Oct. 21 - 27

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is pleased to announce that Brody Wilson of the Yellowhead Chiefs is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week!

In three contests this past week, Wilson had 6 points, scoring 3 times and contributing 3 assists. On Wednesday, with the Chiefs hosting the Parkland Rangers, Wilson scored mid-way through the first period to put the Chiefs up 2-0. He would add 2 assists later in the game, and the Chiefs would go on to beat the Rangers 6-2. On Saturday, with the Chiefs hosting the Winnipeg Bruins, Wilson again scored mid-way through the first. The Chiefs would go on to beat the Bruins 6-1. Finally, on Sunday, with the Central Plains Capitals in town, Wilson assisted on the game’s opening goal and scored late in the second to put the Chiefs up 3-0. Wilson and Chiefs would go on to win 8-0. Wilson was a combined +12 in those 3 games!

The Chiefs captain has 7 goals and 6 assists this season, with all but 1 point coming at even strength.  This is Wilson’s third season with the Chiefs, having accumulated 32 goals and 31 assists  in 87 games to date. Wilson is listed with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Oct. 14 - 20

The Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League is proud to announce that Drayden Kurbatoff of the Eastman Selects is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week.

In two games at the AAA Showcase this past weekend, Kurbatoff scored 3 goals and added 5 assists to help the Selects earn 4 points. The Grunthal native notched a power play assist mid-way through the third period and scored the Selects’ 6th goal, clinching the 6-3 victory against the Southwest Cougars. Kurbatoff and the Selects followed that win with an 11-2 routing of the Kenora Thistles on Sunday. Kurbatoff had 3 points in the first period against the Thistles, scoring on the power play, assisting on the Selects’ 2nd marker, and tallying his second of the night before the 10-minute mark. The 6’0” forward would notch two more assists in the third period.

Kurbatoff is in his second year with the Selects. He had 7 goals and 7 assists in his first season and has 9 points in his first 6 games this year. The 2002-born player is protected by the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Oct. 7 - 13

The Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League is proud to announce that Colby Joseph of the Yellowhead Chiefs is the CCM player of the week.

In two games this weekend against the Norman Northstars, Joseph scored twice and added four assists. On Saturday, Joseph tallied three assists, with one coming on the power play. Joseph followed up that effort with a two goal, one assist outing. The Chiefs won both games (9-2 and 7-2).

Colby is a grade 12 student in his third season with the Chiefs. He has four goals and seven assists in six games this season. His efforts have vaulted the Chiefs to a 5-0-01 record. The 5’11” forward is draft pick of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

Sept. 20 - Oct. 6

The Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League is proud to announce that Ryan Botterill of the Central Plains Capitals is the CCM Player of the Week!

In 3 contests this past week, Botterill scored 5 goals and added 2 assists. On Wednesday, with the Capitals in Morden to face the Pembina Valley Hawks, Botterill had an assist and also scored on the power play. Central Plains lost that game 7 to 4. On Saturday, against the Norman Northstars, Botterill again scored on the power play, which gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead. After the Northstars tied the game at 2, Botterill scored early in the third period and assisted on another to put the Caps up 4-2. Central Plains went on to win 7-2. In the weekend finale, also against the Northstars, Botterill scored mid-way through the first period to even the game at 1. He added his second of the game late in the second period as the Capitals went on to win 6-1.

The second year forward currently leads his team in goals, with 6, and points, with 8. Through 4 games this season, Botterill already has 2 game winners. The 5’8” forward is a listed player with the Portage Terriers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

Sept. 23 - 29

The Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League is pleased to announce that Cole Plowman of the Winnipeg Thrashers is the CCM Hockey Player of the Week. 

In two games this weekend, Plowman picked up two wins including one shutout. On Friday, against the Parkland Rangers, Plowman stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Thrashers beat the Rangers 4-0. The following day, the Selkirk native made15 saves in the first period alone, defending repeated offensive waves by the Southwest Cougars. His efforts allowed the Thrashers to settle down and eventually take over the game. Plowman finished the game with 23 saves, and his efforts were instrumental in guiding the Thrashers to a 4-2 victory.  The 6’0” goaltender stopped 49 of 51 shots faced over the weekend for a Goals Against Average of 1.00 and Save Percentage of .961.

Plowman, who is in his second season with the Thrashers, had a 14-7 record last season with a .925 Save Percentage and 2.38 Goals Against Average. He is listed with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League and is protected by the Selkirk Steelers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
